asacol and prevacid
Question:
I have ulcerative colitis for about 6 years.. I take Asacol and Rowasa Suppositories. Now I been having problems with my esophagus. So I went for a gastroscopy. He says my esophagus is inflamed. I am now taking a 30mg Prevacid every morning along with my other medications for a year. Does anybody take both Asacol and Prevacid together like this? and Is there a link with ulcerative colitis and a inflamed esophagus? and Does taking Asacol for a long time cause an inflamed esophagus? Any input would be appreciated.

I had similar problems when taking asacol. The GI doc gave me prevacid but it did not help. She then changed me from asacol to sulfasalazine and the problem went away. I still take 1 prevacid in the morning in the event there was some other problem. I suggest you talk to your doc about switching off asacol for a short time just in case it is causing your problem.
