post hsyto endo pain

Question:

I went to Dr. Cook’s website and interestingly he collaborated and worked with "my" infert. dr., G. David Adamson,in Nor. CA, one of the best in the country and the Dr. who orig. diagnosed and lasered my endo in 85 (not 84, that was a misremembrance; should have counted on my fingers instead of trying to figure it out! (j/k)) My current Dr. is Antonio Sanchez in North Hollywood, and he has many of the same credentials as Dr. Cook. Maybe I should revisit my crisis of confidence? Anyway, thanks so much for you help. And thanks for the Dr.Cook link.   "Carey & John" – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Where do you live?  We may be able to suggest an excellent endo doc near you, or you may be able to travel to one close.  You need an excellent endo specialist, usually a reproductive endocrinologist, but not all of them are good.  I’ve been to many many many docs that say they are endo specialists and have come away in pain.  I finally found a REAL endo "great" and came away from that surgery endo free.  The bowel endo can and absolutely SHOULD be removed, as well as removing it from everywhere, using a microscope to make sure ALL of it, even the microscopic endo is gone.  That is what will give you pain relief.  There is no cure, but there can be excellent treatment.  Lupron is only a stop gap measure and doesn’t cure it and won’t make what’s left go away.  I had severe bowel endo and had all of it removed, along with all of the adhesions, not to mention, ovaries, uterus, bladder, rectum, ureters, small and large bowel, etc…. it can be removed by a skilled surgeon who KNOWS what he is doing. I went to Dr. Andrew Cook of the Omega Institute of Health in Louisiana and it was worth the trip.  He has a webpage at http://www.drcook.com and it’s full of good info.  He will also review your records free of charge and let you know how he can help. He’s a very kind, compassionate, KNOWLEDGEABLE endo doctor.  The best in my humble opinion.  You might be closer to another doc that we can also recommend, if you’ll let us know the state you live in.  Take care and I wish you the best. Hysto & right ovary removed Apr. 96, dr. reported "looks like someone spilled a can of blue paint in your abdominal cavity, there was so much endo I couldn’t remove it all, especially on the bowel." Had 1 lupron shot post op, then dr. called me in to tell me the biopsy was not conclusive for endo, but some sort of "giant cell" something or other. Within 9 months, severe pain on left side esp. during intercourse, large tumor found on lft ovary, ovarectomy Mar. 97. Both surgeries laparotomies. Now taking Estrotest (ert). In 94, had a pain in the rectum (no pun) so severe it knocked me off the john and I laid on the floor moaning, then in about 5 min. it was just gone, but I was shaky. Next felt it right before hysto. Then again about 3 months ago, worse one ever, actually fainted for a minute. About 7 months ago, started having IBS symptoms, chalked up to stress and was given levbid and prevacid. Also, multiple bladder infections w/ bleeding and passing tissue since 10/95. Now I don’t get infections but my left kidney hurts all the time, my left hip hurts, still have some IBS symptoms, and now painful intercourse both deep in cul-de-sac AND NOW on right side of vagina (not the surface, it’s a deep pain.) Wondering what if anything they can do for endo on the bowel. Orig. gyn said it was like cancer, can eat through tissue and cause big problems. but for some reason, he doesn’t seem to be concerned that this could be endo. Now that I’ve read some of these posts, I’m more convinced than ever that it is lurking and ready to strike. I still get period cramps, even though have no repro organs left! Must be endo bleeding into cavity.  Now I’m prepared to go to the dr. and ask for a referral to a specialist. What kind of spec. should I look for, a gyno or gastro or endo spec.? Or all 3. Any thoughts, suggestions, commiseration would be appreciated. Sorry this is so long. Leslie Before you buy.

Thanks  for the quick response. You guys are prolific. I live in Burbank CA, near LA. Thanks in advance for the referral if you’re able to give me one. I do like my gyno and he claims to be an endo spec. but he is older and I’m having a little crisis of confidence in him. If I can get some names, I think I can get my PPO Dr. to refer me to someone. I haven’t talked to my family about all this. I think I thought that after the 2 major surgeries, I SHOULD be OK. So I acted OK! Even my husb. doesn’t realize what I’m going through. Plus it just dawned on me that all my problems may be related. Thanks again for your input.
