Question:

   Well just came back from the Dr. & there is no problem with the metformin &  Ace Inhibitiors. He has put me on Accupril 10mg once a day and taken me off Novatriamzide (diuretic) he says that doing that alone will bring down the bg’s. Also told that I’m just surfing the edge on insulin and that if that happens that my weight will go up. Cyn, I’m in a similar place, taking metformin and not an ACE inhibitor, but a related class of drugs (Cozaar to be specific) for the microelevation of albumin in my urine. At my annual physical 3 months ago, the amount of albuminaria had increased. My doc (finally after prompting) consulted an endo who basically said all the info I had shared was a crock and not to worry and not to change my treatment in any way. I was in for quarterly blood draw and urine sample this morning, follow-up visit with my doc next week. Can you call you internist and ask him?  I think allot of us are taking ace Inhibitors with metformin, but  we probably don’t have any kidney problems. If you find out let us know. Jacquie

I take an ACE inhibitor (Coversyl 8mg/day) and Metformin (850mg/2xday). I started the Coversyl after a "slightly" elevated mircoalbumin (sp) of 117 (what ever that means!!) I am also taking Lipitor (10mg/day) for Chloresterol even though my last test was OK, due to my diabetes and slightly high BP the Dr’s are treating my Cholesterol as if I had already had a heart attack so my target is 3.6 as opposed to the 5.05 where I am. Only side effect I’ve noticed is that my BG is slightly higher than it was before I started the Coversyl and Lipitor but still quite acceptable. I go back to see my Dr on the 13th. for further evaluation. Good luck on the 7th!!
