Take prevacid once daily. The lump feeling is mostly gone now… Does anyone else feel like you are constantly clearing your throat? I always want to go "hmmmm".. like a little cough sorta thing. I know this is annoying to folks I am around… just wondered how others deal w/ this? Any solutions? tks- dawn

Hi Dawn Yes it is a problem for me also especially when talking I’m forever clearing my throat. I don’t know what causes it but I suspect reflux. Lots of people were posting here but of late they seemed to have disappeared, maybe they have found a cure, LOL CaSeY – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hi, it doesnt look like many people are posting here lately. but i will post my question anyway, in hopes that someone will see. i am new here… diagnosed w/ GERD about a year ago – went to doc for lump feeling in throat. I used Hall’s cough drops back a few yrs ago- due to dry mouth (allergy meds I guess).. Not thinking about the sugar, I almost ruined my teeth (Not to mention the dental bills). But my mouth gets so dry at nite- I can not hardly swallow. Then I switched to Sugar free halls…. cause of my dental bills.and ruined teeth! …and then one day I thought all that menthol may be causing my reflux – or definitely not helping it…. So, i try to have sugar free hard candy now- Jolly Ranchers, lemon ….etc…any sugar free hard candy. Cutting down on the menthol cough drops seems to help my reflux some… but I must ALWAYS have water or a hard candy close by- I will actually get this choking feeling. Very embarrassing in a store. The Prevacid helps- it is expensive- sometimes I get free samples from my doc. Does anyone else have to always have water or some candy close by ? i always take my water bottle w/ me now… everywhere… even church and other functions.

Yes, my meds probably do contribute to the dry mouth… allergy meds and also an SSRI (for depression). But no way am I stopping either. The benefits definitely outweigh any side-effects.

That’s the drip. As I said in my last message, unless you’re tasting acid, this is caused by the post-nasal drip. CW http://www.volare.net/gerd
Response:
I guess I missed your last msg that you mentioned this. The list of symptoms that my doc gave me, listed post nasal drip- or the sensation of- being a symptom of GERD.

As I said, it can be. But post-nasal drip is a very vague symptom that many people have, and there are many causes. Also, GERD and post-nasal drip could occur simultaneously due to the same cause, which is the case in allergies. It can be hard to tell which is causing which. CW
