Intestinal Problems

Question:

Just wonder how many people have had problems with their colons after   being on NSAIDS. Mine is inflamed, and they can’t find a reason. I   think it has to be because I’ve been on Naprosyn for years and years.   I’m just wondering how common it is.  Judy, I’ve been taking Indocine since 1977 and have had  absolutely no problems.  My doctors are amazed that I  still have a stomach left, but I always take it with  food (as the instructions say) approxiamately 8 am at  breakfast, 4 pm at dinner, and midnight with a bedtime  snack. … Proper English grammar is when you say gender instead of sex. ___ Blue Wave/QWK v2.12

Response:

Hi, I have been on NSAID’s for years, while taking sucralafate to protect the stomach.  I had a colonoscopy and gastroscopy this year and they found stomach inflammation because of them.  The doc also said prednisone and methotrexate (shot or pill) can affect your stomach, and I’ve been on both.  I started Celebrex about 6 months ago and take Prevacid now, so hopefully the inflammation will be in check. Margaret

Response:

Meclomen (another NSAID) gave me Colitis after taking it for years.  I was told this is not uncommon for Meclomen (Colitis is a type of inflamed colon).  I suppose it isn’t too uncommon for other NSAIDs as well.  Have you talked to your rheumatologist about it? Linda T.
