%&#%(! Oxford Insurance

Question:

Just got a call from my Rheumy’s office… Oxford denied the doctors prescription for putting me on Celebrex for PA. Oxford said that it causes too many gastrointestinal problems (although, truth be known, it is because of the high cost). The Rheumy’s office told me that basically Oxford (like many other HMO’s) say there are various other medications that my doctor ‘could’ have put me on first meeting of course their criteria, before putting me on one of the best ones first. To me.. that is completely insane, but I am ‘only’ the one that is suffering! In either case, I still have my sample box of 12 pills left and was instructed to take them until the end and then call the Rheumy back to tell him how I’m feeling and at that time he’ll prescribe a different course of medication. Sorry, but this HMO insurance system is for the *GD* BIRDS! BUT, I am sure you all knew that already! In the mean time I will still continue to take the glucosamine sulfate (1500MG per day) and the Flax Seed Oil… Any other suggestions for vitamin remedies used to battle Psoriatic Arthritis? Response:

Leslie, I have been taking Celebrex for the last two years for RA and the last thing it does is cause stomach upset! On the contrary I used to have to take Prevacid when I was on Cataflam but now I don’t have to take anything with it. And FYI, I also have Oxford.  They will cover it but you need your doctor to call the pharmacist department and tell them that this is the only medicine he thinks will work for you and get specal authorization.  That’s what I did.  You have to do this I believe once per year for certain meds. Good Luck!! Mariam.
